SMILES

I paint - A LOT... almost all day almost every day!!!

For six months at age six, I was sick and bedridden with rheumatic fever a complication resulting from strep throat and severe asthma. To distract me from pain and discomfort growing up sickly, my mom entertained me with art and craft projects, cultivating a sense of well being and most of all - my love for art! I was fortunate to have a history teacher who was also my art teacher in the 7th grade who recognized and helped me to hone my artistic abilities, rather than labeling or dwelling on my academic shortcomings. In high school I attended a great Printing & Graphic Art course for three years, that enabled me to land great jobs working as a graphic artist for New Woman Magazine, Tandy/Radio Shack, and The Drawing Board ~ a greeting card company, before taking a huge leap of faith, to become a self taught freelance decorative artist. Being dyslexic makes reading, names, numbers, and math a real chore so I am thankful to be blessed with the ability to teach myself to paint and be a hard worker to make my living doing art & craft shows for almost 30 years!

I am lucky not to be addicted to drugs... alcohol... smoking... gambling... PAINTING IS MY ADDICTION!!! I especially love to paint anything that provokes a viewer to smile and ''turning trash to treasures''...

  • See Hear and speak no evil

    I am often inspired to paint See no Evil, Hear no Evil, Speak no Evil, because my momma taught me that 'if you have nothing nice to say ... then say nothing at all'!!!

    I am a textbook case of a reclusive artist who prefers the quiet solitude of my own company to the company of anyone who carelessly casts judgement or throws hurt into the world for any reason. I am disturbed when I see someone else being belittled or insulted, and find it hard to feel inspired to paint when it happens to me or to another. For that reason I prefer to be an ostrich and keep my head buried in the sand to be able to stay inspired, productive, and motivated.

    For me, inspiration is greatest when no evil words are cast, motivation has no time for unkind words, and depression is much easier to keep out when my eyes are closed!lol

    I do my best to keep from judging anyone for anything and at least keep it to myself if I have an inappropriate or hurtful opinion. Speaking unkind, evil, or judgemental words is no use to anyone, and as far as I can see, no one's flaws are any worse or better than another, just different.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~
    See... Hear... and above all speak no evil... only those lacking self love and confidence judge others, for a whale is just as worthy and deserving of care and respect as is an orchid and a song bird who sings a perfect melody is no more justified to sing in the forest than a quacking duck on a pond.
    ~L. Risor
    I have no color prejudices nor caste prejudices nor creed prejudices. All I care to know is that a man is a human being, and that is enough for me; he can't be any worse.
    ~Mark Twain
    It is not easy to find happiness in ourselves, and it is not possible to find it elsewhere.
    ~Agnes Repplier
    There are at least two kinds of cowards. One kind always lives with himself, afraid to face the world. The other kind lives with the world, afraid to face himself.
    ~Roscoe Snowden
    We are each burdened with prejudice; against the poor or the rich, the smart or the slow, the gaunt or the obese. It is natural to develop prejudices. It is noble to rise above them.
    ~Author Unknown
    Judgements prevent us from seeing the good that lies beyond appearances.
    ~Dr. Wayne W. Dyer
    I am passionate about being an artist, painting in my own quiet little world which sees , hears, and speaks no evil, so I am going back to the drawing board/easel to return with more paintings in time.
    SOMETIMES...
    MY IMAGINATION GETS THE BETTER OF ME...
    Still... my imagination is so lucky to have me!
    I was inspired to paint the glowing sunset with the two entertwined trees, representing for me the love and light shared by two who are madly, deeply, passionately, honestly, loyaly, devotedly, imaginatively, and eternally in love.
    I painted the winking moon after being reminded that no matter how alone we may feel and no matter how far away we may be from a loved one... we all sleep underneath the same moon and we are never truly alone since we're always in the best of company - ourself!
    Two passionately love inspired paintings - even if to some it may seem that I sometimes only paint silly pictures that are painted with little thought... or imagination!
    What I feel, think, desire, believe in, and imagine goes much much farther than many others imagination ever will!
    My Cup Runneth Over
    I was inspired to paint this original miniature oil painting of a grey tiger striped kitty over filling a brandy snifter, after I was reminded that the cup is not only half full... I am thankful I also see the cup as running over.
    This painting was my first attempt in 2007 to paint my feelings about my life (with a kitty in the picture as usual.) It is a small picture but for me is a big picture in life, so this one has more personal and deeper meaning than many I paint. This painting reflects my gratitude for all things in life no matter how small, bad, or even insignificant they may appear, including my appreciation for also being drug and alcohol free, unlike many who also struggle daily with addiction.
    ~~~~~~~
    I have been painting all my life & painting professionally for over three decades.
    I took a break from painting in 2006, and am back on a painting roll!
    I am an artist and a single mother. As my sole income I paint to support myself and my son, who is medicaly handicapped due to a rare birth defect.(Esophageal Atresia/ long gap no T.E. fistula) Frequent doctor and emergency room visits for my son plus my dyslexia have made getting - or keeping a "real job" - almost impossible for me, so I am thankful to have been able to teach myself to paint! After painting for my livelyhood for 30 years, and as my son grew more independant, I felt a need to contribute something more to life than painting pretty pictures. In 2006, I took a break from painting to complete a nursing course and for a year I have been working in a rehab geriatric health care facility. After an infection spread at work, in order to protect my son and my own health from ill consequences, I decided painting is a better choice for us both. I can add joy to life with my pretty pictures now and feel much more satisfaction than ever before. Nursing restored my passion for painting! I think my work shows that too! I did it though, so I am not a quiter and I am not a failure! I fullfilled a lifelong dream and I can still help in home care when needed.

    Painting is definately a gift that I greatly appreciate, but I have also worked very hard to be an artist!
